Meet our international team
John graduated from the London Veterinary School in the late 1960s. He dedicated his entire professional life to equine reproduction. In addition to his clinical work, he published numerous articles in international journals and books, and delivered lectures and presentations at conferences around the world.
Juan graduated from the National University of Colombia in 1982 and subsequently worked in a private practice specializing in large animals—specifically dairy cattle and horses. In 1985, he began his studies at the University of Minnesota, where he earned his PhD in 1990, focusing on reproductive physiology and clinical reproduction.
Duccio completed his veterinary studies at the University of Pisa in 2001 and obtained his doctorate in 2005. His research focuses on the reproduction of horses and donkeys. He gained international experience at various institutions, including Colorado State University.
Roberto is an international specialist in equine assisted reproduction, with over twenty-five years of experience gained in Europe and the Americas. He is best known for his pioneering work in Ovum Pick-Up (OPU) and other related technologies, such as ICSI.
Assistant Professor at the Institute of Animal Reproduction Research in Egypt and Head of the Diagnostic Imaging and Endoscopy Department. Owner and Director of the Derbala Equine Clinic. He obtained his PhD in 2013, with a focus on equine endometritis.
Veterinarian and graduate of FMVZ/UNESP – Botucatu, holding a Master’s degree in animal reproduction from the same institution. He has published numerous articles in high-impact scientific journals as well as book chapters on equine reproduction. Co-founder of GeneTech Animal Reproduction.
Carolina has been working as an embryologist for 25 years, specializing in the in vitro production of bovine and equine embryos—both for research projects and as a commercial service for breeders. She works at the University of Zurich in Switzerland, where she established the country’s first laboratory dedicated to equine embryo culture.
Katrien completed her Master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine at Ghent University in 2006. Her doctoral research focused on intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in horses, a process that resulted in the birth of the first Belgian foal produced using this method. Since 2022, she has been working as a professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Ghent University.
Juan graduated as a veterinarian in Murcia, Spain, in 2003. After completing a residency in equine theriogenology at the Royal Veterinary College (University of London) in 2008, he became an ECAR specialist in equine reproduction. He obtained his PhD from the University of Helsinki in 2010 and currently serves as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. His daily work focuses primarily on advanced reproductive techniques.
Marco gained his PhD from the University of São Paulo (UNESP) in 1996. He subsequently spent two years conducting postdoctoral research at the University of Colorado. He is currently a professor in the Equine Reproduction Department at the University of São Paulo. As a co-founder of Botupharma, he focuses primarily on stallion reproduction and semen processing, as well as the causes and treatment of infertility in mares.
Daniel graduated in veterinary medicine from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais in Brazil in 2005. Immediately after graduation, he began working with Prof. Marco Alvarenga. He gained international experience through, among other things, an internship in Uruguay. In 2008, he earned a master’s degree from UNESP, focusing on the process of semen freezing and epididymal sperm recovery. Since 2010, he has served as the International Director at Botupharma.
Jos is perhaps best known as an active promoter of knowledge regarding equine reproduction through his website, Equine Reproduction.com. He moved to Canada in the 1980s, where he was the first to successfully freeze stallion semen in Nova Scotia. In 2005, he and his wife, Kathy, established their own facility, where they offer semen freezing services, mare reproductive management, and educational short courses.
An equine medicine specialist and one of two surgeons on the colic surgery team at the Służewiec Equine Hospital. Beyond surgery, his clinical practice focuses primarily on equine reproduction, encompassing gynecology, obstetrics, artificial insemination and embryo transfer (ET). He holds the position of university professor at the University of Agriculture in Kraków.
Tom graduated from the University of Cambridge’s Department of Veterinary Medicine, where he also earned his PhD under the supervision of Professor W.R. “Twink” Allen. He is a Diplomate of the European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR) and a specialist in equine reproduction recognized by the Royal Dutch Veterinary Association. He ran a clinic in Utrecht covering all aspects of equine reproduction, with a particular focus on assisted reproduction. In December 2024, he moved to the University of Kentucky to pursue a research program.
